I am planning on trying to make it London/Paris Bayonne on my first travel day. Any recommendations for nice and nice & affordable hotels in Bayonne, near the train station?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Hotel Restaurant Le Monte Carlo is right across from the train station. Very friendly, good breakfast if you have time, good price. Can't beat the location.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
A bit cheaper and not as nice:
Hotel Cote Basque
2 Rue Maubec, 64100 Bayonne, France
hotel-cotebasque.fr
+33 5 59 55 10 21

I stayed there. Extremely convenient and very decent. Directly across the street from the train station. If I ever stay overnight in Bayonne to catch the train to SJPdP again, this is where I will stay. Acceptable breakfast.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I agree with Hotel Cote Basque ,it's right across from the station around 50 euro for the night . I walked across and booked my ticket for SJPDP before I even checked out . Basic but clean and convenient . A lovely little bakery a few doors down .

And there's a well-stocked grocery just a few meters away too. If I recall correctly, go left from Hotel Cote Basque, kitty-corner across the plaza, continue along about a block and it's on the right. I got some Camino supplies there; it saved me from having to search out a market in SJPP.
