Anywhere to stay between Tomar and Alvaiazere?

im starting my camino from Tomar tomorrow? I'd rather not walk 31k the first day? Anywhere to stay in between? Doesn't have to be an albergue.

An odd 20 kms to Alvaizère from Tomar. We stayed in pensão O Bras just at the right if you enter Alvaiazère. In the same building they run a good restaurant.
At the other end of the village is an albergue. We haven't been there.
Go to the church in the middle of the village for a very nice stamp. It has no ink but is pressed into the paper of your credential.very good

When you are at the hostal in Tomar (Tomat 2300) ask for the pick- up service. By using their pick- up service they will pick you up anywhere you wish and drive you back to the same point in the next morning. You can cut the long stage in two shoerter ones and stay two nights in Tomar.

Actually the 3 hostels (Santarem Hostel, Tomar 2300 and albergue in Alvaiazere) co-operate and do the pick- up service so pilgrims can walk shorter stages along the camino Portugues.

Hi Frida, there is nowhere to stay between Tomar and Alvaiazere. Having already walked this stretch once, I took the 10:30 bus (check the bus timetables at the bus station in Tomar) to Alvaiazere, rather than walk in 32C heat, and I stayed at the Pinheiro albergue (very, very nice). By the time 2 caminho friends had arrived (one walked, the other one took the later bus), I had sourced a place to eat, and then a really cool bar on the other side of town, which we didn’t leave till after 1am. (The albergue gives you a key to the front door.) Bom Caminho. Jill

yes - there is the pilgrim-service to recommend (transport out of town) -
i was not inclined to walk those 30+ km - no matter how lovely the scenery. one indeed walks through lovely scenery - take it mega easy though, given that it is your first day.
stayed at the pinheiro @ the church (has only three rooms though - i called ahead to reserve) - the albergue is above a laundry service (run by the owner of the albergue if i recall correctly) everyone very nice.
had lunch at the O Bras - restaurant. quite good -

in the morning i had a yummy cafe' in a small bar not far from the church (to your left hand side if the albergue Pinheiro is behind your right) - the only one that was open.

the town itself wasn't at all too interesting.
free wifi though around the church.
best reception i had while standing under a tree

enjoy Tomar - MARVELOUS fine town.

My diary [Pilgrimage III on my web] says .... "My feet were telling me it was time to hitch a lift. I moved onto the main N110, but no-one would stop for me. There was no room to walk by the side of the road and I felt very vulnerable. It drizzled on and off, and I took shelter when it was heavy.
I'd walked a total of around 20 kms, when finally a car stopped. The driver was en-route to a funeral, but kindly went out of his way to take me all the way into the centre of Alvaiazere
There is only one 'residencia' in the town. I finally found O Bras and booked a room for 18.50 Euros. .... I enjoyed an excellent supper.

My bedroom was a very pleasant, warm room. O Bras also provide a pilgrims' supper for 10 Euros and breakfast for 2.50 Euros.
In the evening the rain became much heavier. How lucky I was that I'd completed my journey before the heavy rain began. Maybe I was being looked after. I read the Kindle for a couple of hours until supper time. It was getting cold, and I actually wore my blue jacket to dinner. On the news it said it had been the coldest May in Portugal for two hundred years......"

Ha ha. That is very kind of you my good friend.
We had dinner at O Bras together with a guy from Switzerland who sat some tables away from us. We ordered a glass of wine with our diner. I saw he ordered a bottle of something.
After he had finished his diner he left and gave us the bottle to finish. There was about 25% of the containt left.
I looked at the label of the bottle. It was, my goodness, aguardente, liquor of 55° proof.
He was in a hurry to get to Santiago before the end of the month because he had to go to work again, he told me.
Good stuff ,this aguardente . I hope he reached Santiago with the right percentage of blood in his alcohol

hi, this might be an old thread, but i picked it up, so other people might aswell..
we just opened a guesthouse, Ti' Ladeira on the caminho to alvaiazere, about an hour walk before. caminheiros are very welcome, we offer nice beds/rooms and a cosy family atmosphere with breakfast and additional supper if required. Spread the word and feel free to check it out! ;-) tiladeira.com
