Bus or train From Santiago to Astorga

We (my wife, my two chidrens and me) are going to pilgrim from Astorga to Santiago de Compostela. We Arrive in Santiago de Compostela 16.8.2011 about 8 a.m. How I could get to Astorga from Santiago de Compostela . I found that the bus leaves from Santiago to Astorga at 9:45 a.m. (by ALSA). Does anyone have experience with this transport line? Is there any other transport company which transports passengers to Astorga? (If we missed, or would not free space on the bus). And what about trains? Can I get from Santiago to Astorga by train? How much does it cost?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I have used ALSA a lot and I love it!
The buses are clean, have wonderful windows for sightseeing, and are comfortable.
They're also often much less expensive than the train.

You can book tickets online using PayPal.

The train goes at 09.25 arrives 14.35 (5 h. 10 min) and costs €30

I don't think there are one-way car rentals. Bus, train, or taxi will be your options.

Take Empresa Freire to Lugo where you can catch ALSA bus to Astorga (same one as departs from Santiago).

I would suggest staying in either of Santiago or Lugo on the 29th and continuing travel in the morning.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
