sillydoll said:Annie, my information is that there are no direct train links from Santiago de Compostela to Porto and one has to go via Vigo.
http://www.renfe.es/ or the Spanish train timetables.
http://www.cp.pt for the Portuguese train timetables.
There are two trains daily between Vigo and Porto. Connecting Services as follows:

Santago da Compostela: 17:38 Vigo: 18:59 Vigo: 19:44 Porto: 21:55
The bus from Santiago goes straight to Porto and the airport, twice a day, for 22 euros, and then
on to Fatima, Lisboa.
http://www.alsa.es for the bus timetables.
By Bus: Santiago to Porto – Fatima – Lisbon http://www.alsa.es
2.45hrs costs 22euro one way 10am 17pm 10pm 22pm
If you take a train to Vigo there is a direct bus service to Oporto airport and city.

As you will be travelling on a Sunday, other things to note are; Sunday and Public holiday services are usually reduced, when compared with the rest of the week so check the timetables. There is an hours’ difference between the two countries.
The ALSA website says it is at the Casa da Musica.Does anyone know the exact address of the Bus Terminal in Porto
As I looked at google maps ,that's the place , the final stop in Porto for the bus from Santiago. Around the corner is the metrostop and in front of the paragem (busstop) are plenty of taxi's as being said before by Lisa TThe ALSA website says it is at the Casa da Musica.
Rua Capitao Henrique Galvao , Porto

Well the bus that I took this year didn't had any toilet inside. But we stoped for 5 minutes in Vigo, and there was a toilet in there.
The bus stops for 1 hour in Porto, for lunch, and you do have a toilet on the bus stop. I know it, because I used it
Best Regards
Diogo
So my good friend. You were lucky at the time and we were eitherBoth we found a toilet..you even two Anyway ALSA takes you from Santiago to Porto and vice versa. The bus stops at the Santiago busstation (a good 20 minutes walk from the center but which peregrino cares about that distance ) , the Vigo busstation and at the Porto Airport and Porto busstation nearby the Casa da Musica. Rua Capitao Henrique Galvao , Porto
(Interface metro Casa Da Musica )
By then (june 2013) we experienced by booking on line at the ALSA website after filling in an endless form that at the end they did not accept a foreign creditcard.Only Spanish creditcards ! So the Tourist Info in Santiago booked the bus for us two days in advance to be sure we had a seat in the bus . We got a special price because we are 60+ ! I thougt this is called " reducción tercera edad" in Spanish. Browsing at the ALSA website I did not find any pointing to this reduction but it is good to know that it exists to whom it concerns So ask for it I should say !
Happy new year and bom caminho !
My good friend Diogo. The bus we took from Santiago went to Porto via Vigo and stopped at the airport of Porto and went on to paragem casa da Musica.Ok, now I remembered something about the bus. Actually, there are TWO buses leaving Santiago every day. I remembered that there is one that goes from Santiago to Lisboa and that stops in Porto, and that there is one that has its final destination in Porto. Probably it's that one that stops in the airport, because I and my friends (one of them has done the same trip 2 times), don't have any memories of stopping near the Airport of Porto. What I do remember is that on the bus station, of 2 buses, one saying Lisboa and the other saying Porto, and the people who had Porto has a destination, being sent to the bus to Porto, beside both of them stopping at the same places.
Best Regards
Diogo

About a bus going on to Lisboa I do not know because I did not ask about it
Our flight back home was from Porto.
What was the reason you and your friend can't remember whether the bus stopped at the airport or not ?demasiado Aguardente velha or falling asleep meanwhile or ..... ?
By the way did you hop off the bus in Porto and walked back home to Castanheiro or were you on the bus to Lisboa.?
Abraçoes disso margem do rio Maas
No, I have a very good memorie, and I'm not a drinker any more. And you gaved me reason saying that your bus ended up in Porto. The one that goes to Lisbon stops at Casa da Música for one hour to luch, and then it goes south.
I've tooked the bus, I hadn't enough time to walk back home. Plus, from Porto, it's almost 300km. Probably in a future, after doing the Francês, I'm going to do a "Home to Santiago" Caminho.
Abraços e tudo de bom para vocês.
Best Regards
Diogo
we as experienced peregrinos do not care about 300 kms pois não !
Anyway you have aplan for the future ! So you are a winner ! Winners have a plan !

Alsa bus
http://www.alsa.es/compra-y-horarios/internacionales/?searchType=international#
At the bottom of Alsa international page see the list:
"Para ver las direcciones de las paradas haz click en el enlace situado al lado de cada país"
Click "Portugal (ver parada)".
The address given for the stop in Porto is:
-INTERFACE CASA DA MUSICA (RUA DO CAPITAO HENRIQUE GALVAO, S/N)-
When using that with google earth, that only makes sense if its Metro Casa da Musica - the Porto Metro station located near Casa da Musica.
Alsa website has crapped out ... I guess I need to look at Santiago to Oporto as Porto not listed as destination. There should be an address on the itenerary.
Hi there,
Have you had any luck with the Alsa website? I've been trying to sort out the bus from Santiago de Compostela to Porto for the end of my first Camino, which I'll be walking in April and concluding in early May. From what I can see, even after breaking down to use Google Translate, the Alsa website is designed to drive me insane.
Yeah ... forget ALSA ... for international trips. Its not good information.
Go from Santiago to Vigo with Monbus bus then transfer to Autna bus from Vigo to Porto.
Autna goes from Santiago too so check the schedule.

I'm finding any trip that crosses borders ... best tactic is to get to a border town ... cross the border to a border town on the other side ... and then continue journey.
And, I just found that there is train service from Santiago to Vigo and Vigo to OPorto.

Hello,
I went into http://www.alsa.es site to see how long and how much is the fare from Santiago to Porto. I don't see Porto as a destination. Am i missing something? like it's named differently.
Thanks! Buen Camino
Hi Dennis, make sure that you click on the international tab. Destination is shown as Oporto (with another option for Oporto airport) once you select Portugal.Hello,

Thank you BlueNavy.
My trip is not until May 2015 but as said, i just wanted to start looking on my trip details. This bus leaves around noon from Santiago. Is there any other option I have if I want to arrive earlier in Porto? Car rental is not an option at this timeI was hoping to find an early arrival in Porto. I will be in Porto only for an overnite stay; before proceeding to Lisbon. I wanted to explore the city a bit for I heard it's a nice one. So anything that will arrive between 11 am - 1 pm is preferred.
Hello,
If you are happy with the time frame, I suggest you book ahead. My wife and I took the Santiago-Porto bus on the 6th of October, 100% full.
Booked through http://www.internorte.pt as suggested by Diogo, as the Alsa site still doesn't accept a non-spanish credit card. Finally the bus was... an Alsa one. According to the Santiago bus station personnel, the bus may be tagged Internorte or Alsa. I understand it's a kind of joint operation.
You will need to print the e-ticket you will get by e-mail. Many albergues/bars/restaurants are equipped with Internet stations and printers in the last 100 km (you are not the only one needing to print!).
