Camino Baztan: Advice, please.

Gorgeous day in Bayonne. What a delightful city. And oo la la....the chocolate. Yum. We waited too many years to get here.

We received our credencial and stamp at the cathedral by the enthusiastic gentleman at the accuel desk who tried so hard to explain things in franglais. We understood enough. Got hiking poles at Decathalon as recommended on Ivar. Only 7 euros. We're ready to start the Camino Baztan.

Any last minute advice?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Be prepared for some long walks and have a place to stay in mind before you join up with the CF.

Be prepared for the mud! Enjoy and when planning your stages try to keep the longest climb in the morning

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Magnifique journée à Bayonne. Quelle charmante ville. Et oo la la... le chocolat. Miam.

I have always bought cheapie poles at Decathlon, too, after arriving in Spain. Last year someone mentioned they purchased theirs at a China Bazaar, so on my last two caminos I have done the same since they had stores closer to where I was staying with a similar 6-7 euro cheap price. A few times over the years I have had to go quite a bit out of my way to get to the nearest Decathlon, so it was nice to read about this tip.

Nope. Just enjoy! (And yes, there's mud. And hills - at least three good ones, increasing in challenge as you go. But it's a lovely little camino - and a nice alternative to motoring up to SJPP and starting there.)

after leaving the main town of the Baztan valley....something like Elizando (don't remember the name) Walk with food. I had to return as there was no place to buy food for two days....it was easter.
