I am a group of 4/5 planning to do the Camino del Norte in late May 2020. We are hoping to do it in stages of approx 25km. I am looking for any information that may help me to plan this trip such as accommodation options, stages, terrain, places of interest etc.
I understand that most people start in Irun. Where exactly in Irun ?
We will probably fly into San Sebastian. Can we get a bus to the starting point in Irun.

Anywhere really. I started at the train station since the Church was closed. You could start at the Tourist office or the Albergue. Your call...

No practically about it. The Norte goes right by the airport. Start from arrivals. Head west, and you will cross the trail in short order. Pretty easy, because north, south, and east will all take you to either the ocean or a river. The squiggly white line just above the airport on Trecile's map is the "hard" option on day one. There is an easier trail just south of it that doesn't climb to the ridge peak of the mountain. All roads lead to San Sebastion. You could also walk into town to get a stamp at the church in Irun, its only a few km. I wouldn't, because that would require doubling back. Cross the main street in Hondarribia, and look for yellow arrows.

You can take the train too if you like. It may be longer than the bus ride but it was closer to my hostel when I stayed in San Sebastian. About the same price. I think it was 2 or 3 euros

I plan to walk the Norte in April, 2020. I may arrive there April 16th. When I will arrive San Sebastian Airport, I will walk to Irun.
Does anyone know, "Can I buy sim card at Madrid Airport?" When I went to Lisbon airport, there has Vodafone phone booth at the airport. I'd like to know if there's any cell phone booth in Madrid Airport.
 
Jumping in on this thread, does anybody know where in Irun we can get our first stamp. We will be arriving into the train station before setting out on the Del Norte.

Thanks Spursfan, do you mean the Hospital de peregrinos de Irun or the Albergue juvenil Martindozenea. On the Wiseley app there are those two options, the first doesn't open until 4pm, we plan to arrive into Irun around 10-11am and the second is described as being under construction. Maybe there's a tourist info office or church, I'll keep looking.

If memory serves me correctly the Church is only open certain hours and closed completely on a Monday. We got our first sello at the railway station cafe.

In 2015, four of us completed El Norte over six weeks, starting in San Sebastián. It seems strange to backtrack to Iran. We stayed @ an empty university dorm room arranged by the information office (circle with the small scripted ”i“), The larger cities have those. It’s a great city for two nights of relaxing. The Camino is not a race nor a graded event so i would recommend spending your backtracking day exploring San Sebastian.
