Summer or Easter 2015
Hi everyone.

I know this seems very early but I am planning to walk the Camino summer 2015 to celebrate my Fiftieth birthday and my friend Sharon's fortieth (sorry for sharing Sharon). We have been thinking of walking the camino for some time and thought this would be a good year for both a spiritual and physical challenge. Although going and planning together we may be walking alone at times and meeting up at the end of the day, which I assume will be safe to do, as we want to have our own experiences too. It may seem a long way off but I hope this site will encourage me to keep on track, preparing body, mind and soul as well as my finances as I'm hoping to take four weeks for the trip. The other threads and information are inspiring me already. Hope to hear from fellow pilgrims who may be thinking of 2015 or can give me any advice on planning, training or sharing their stories. Greetings from Scotland Diane

Hi Diane and welcome to the Forum. Your recognition of the need to give each other space is one of the most important things when you are walking with someone else. Don't be concerned about walking alone at times, many women (myself included) have set off by themselves.

If you are going to buy a pack or items of clothing for the pilgrimage, keep them light. You don't need much therefore you don't need a big pack. Send me a PM if you'd like a copy of my pack list.

As you've no doubt already discovered, there is a wealth of information on the Forum. It's probably best to read widely and then ask specific questions if you still have any.

Diane,

Welcome to the forum. When I prepared for the Camino, I found excellent advice on this forum.

I prepared for nine months. Each month my anticipation and excitement rose. I hope you don't burst with anticipation! My advice is to start walking and, if possible, doing squats and leg exercises. If you develop your legs before the Camino, you will not suffer the stiffness and sore feet that many experience at the beginning. Already having your walking legs, you may be able to walk further each day in the first stages, thus allowing you to complete the Camino in four weeks time.

Have fun with the preparations, and

Buen Camino.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
