Camping when campgrounds not open

Hello. I'm a Canadian walking Le Puy next April and am hoping to camp but see that most places are not open until mid-May. Will locals be more open to being asked if I could camp on their land/yards if the campsites are not open? I can stay in gites but am really hoping to camp. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Easter falls on 1 April in 2018, and many places will be open Easter to All Saints. If you check your directory and have gite hosts or TO staff call ahead you should be ok.

Thank you so very much! That really helps to know that. All the best.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I found most places in France (in fact ALL I asked) were happy to let me camp on their land. It wasn't on the Le Puy route though.
Happy camping!
