You can probably get some free ones left behind by prior pilgrims at the pilgrim's office in Santiago.

Try Pilgrim House, rua Nova, 19, a couple of blocks "behind" the Cathedral. This is managed by @natefaith a member of and a moderator for this forum.

Yes, try Pilgrim House. I have gotten used poles there in the past. I then donated them at an albergue when I finished walking that year.

PR Blanco albergue right by the pilgrim’s office has lots of poles in a huge bin abandoned there by pilgrim’s before returning home on their flights.

From Sarria you don't need poles. I have never used poles on 6 caminos (including two from SJPdP), so I cannot comment on their alleged usefulness. If you believe they help and you know how to use them properly (and a lot of people don't), then go ahead, by all means. But there are no major climbs between Sarria and SdC.

I agree. We left ours there on our previous two Camino's for others to use

Also, there is a very nice Pilgrim Shop at the base of the escalinatas in Sarria. They carry poles.
