Filmned in Argentina, Ken Scott’s Les Doigts croches (Sticky Fingers) is about a gang of smalltime crooks interrupted by cops during the biggest boost of their lives. In desperation, they turn over two million in cash to one of the guys in their crew and send him off to stash it. The money ends up in Spain, where the man who knows the fortune’s location won’t give it up unless the bad boys, now out of the clink, turn good. They’re supposed to hike 839 kilometres along the 1000-year-old pilgrimage route leading to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela near the Spanish-French border, and during the process, redeem themselves. If they can prove they are now better men, the booty is theirs.

(MMmmmmm ... leading to Santiago near the Spanish-French border?????)

Went to see that movie, in the original version, last night in Montreal.

A mix of comedy and drama. The depiction of the camino is somewhat ridiculous at times, especially for someone who's done it before. Bear in mind that it was not the intent of the author to reflect life on the Camino.

Don't go heel over head to see it.

Cheers,
Jean-Marc

Just posted this on the Martin Sheen thread--- Ivar shd feel free to delete that entry.

I saw Les doigts croches on Saturday night and quite enjoyed it-- it was not until the credits that I saw that the film had been shot in Argentina, which made me feel better as I could not recognize any of the locations and thought that I had been afflicted with senile dementia before my time. In any case, it is not as much about the specifics of the Camino than it is about how it affects the pilgrim and how the imposition of the tradition has an impact on the pilgrim and, from the bank robbery stash at the end of it all, pilgrimage motives can be very mixed.

I thought that the acting was subtle and effective but kilometrage and your views may vary-- others may have their own opinions. For those who are interested in French-Canadian popular culture of the late 1950s and early 1960s, there are oodles of fun references and kitschy songs.
