Walked the Camino Francés for SSD UK 2023
Time of past OR future Camino
CF 2023 sept/Oct
Primitivo July 2024
I was wondering if anyone has seen this film? And if so, is it good? And, where if in the UK (or Jersey) you can stream it from?

A Camino friend recommended it to me, but I can't find anywhere I can watch it.

Apologies for the duplication as also posted this on an old thread which might not get seen by some!

If you Google the title Sur Les Chemins Noir you will see/read many reasons for watching this film staring Jean Dujardin regarding one man's perseverance to overcome extraordinary difficulty. The English version of the film ,On the Wandering Paths, is available on Amazon Prime amongst other sources.

I did look on Amazon Prime previously (about 3 weeks ago now I guess) but it wasn't there. I will take another look though thank you @mspath.

Sometimes there are problems because I live in Jersey which can mean some films don't show.

If you tap Watch Movie regarding the English title you will see a list of several providers. Good luck !

The film is great, the autobiografic novel even better, by the popular french writer-traveller Sylvain Tesson.
I wonder if he ever walked a camino and what would he think about it. I guess he’s more a solitary wanderer and mountain climber.
It’s always the greatest pleasure to listen to him talking about his experiences.
A link for the french speakers about his last book «Avec les fées ».

Guides that will let you complete the journey your way.
Not a bad film, though I found the ending rather abrupt. Not just all the skipping nearly all of the flatter parts of France between the Massif Central and the English Channel, but some of his healing process seems to have been skipped too.

It's anyway a good illustration of what the long-distance walking is like with these sorts of difficulties.

The opening scene was amusing to me personally, as it was almost exactly the most difficult part of my Day 3 in 2005, though I went up that ridge by a different DIY route.

Chemins Noirs are Unpaved Roads.

After drinking a little too heavily, Sylvain Tesson climbed the outer walls of a hotel and clattered down eight metres. A days-long coma and a tough recovery followed. During his rehabilitation, Tesson promised himself to walk 1,300 kilometres across France within a year, if he recovered sufficiently. So it happened, and in the far south-east of France, Sylvain began the walk. Without digital aids and using 'les chemins noirs' (unpaved roads) as much as possible, his journey takes him far away from civilisation. Straight through untouched nature, over sometimes barely passable terrain and along remote areas.

Hope this helps for context. AFAIK a Camino Noir does not exist.

exactly, in fact this name comes from the fact that these trails are drawn in black on the IGN (french national geographical institute) maps.

Indeed. In French the film and Jean Dujardin are superb. Watch it wth someone you love and who understands why one walks . Now I shall read the novel by Sylvain Tesson.

I’m sorry to bother you with that but the video contains so much material that can be related to one’s camino state of mind that I inform you, just in case, that the youtube instant translation is quite accurate. This might interest some of you in discovering this great mind that is Sylvain Tesson.
