We are walking Camino del Norte this April, and are doing some preliminary planning. I am grateful for the posts on how to get from Biarritz to Irun, as that's the route we'll be taking -thanks!. I also understand that credencials can be obtained in the Irun albergue - also thanks for that!. My question is, what happened to all of the discussion about credencials having to be obtained through a parish priest, etc? Is that all gone by the board? Can I assume that the way we have gotten credencials the past four years is unchanged?
I'd be interested to hear if there are still plans afoot to impose further regulations on obtaining credencials.

Thanks.

I gather that, as of the end of this year, the credentials of the Spanish provincial associations will no longer be recognized, but that the credentials issued by the authorities in Santiago and availalble at albergues etc will be recognized. As well, the credentials issued by foreign associations will continue to be recognized, including those issued in Canada by the Canadian Company of Pilgrims (http://www.santiago.ca) and the Association Québécoise des pèlerins et amis du Chemin de Saint Jacques (http://www.duquebecacompostelle.org/). -- but I am open to correction...

Most of the albergues, churches, cathedrals etc will have the 'official', fold out credential. Those issued by other countries will also be accepted. Only those printed by tour companies, travel agents, private organizations will not be accepeted.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Howdy,

Are Credencias available in Santander? My first camino began in St. Jean, not a problem obtaining a credencia. I would be prefer to have it before leaving Santander to start the pilgrimage.

Thank you very much,
Mark
