I am currently in Logronos and have been trying to use my debit card to get Euros. I have never had a problem with it before in Europe but here I am being denied. Any advice would be appreciated. I have checked with my bank and everything is ok on their end. I've tried multiple locations and banks. Thanks
I also found them reliable for my Canadian bank card.I strictly use Santander Bank ATM's.
Be sure to let your debt card provider know you are in Spain. The banks are closed here today because of the grand fiesta. My problem I think is because my debit card has no chip. I used my credit card. Not ideal but necessary. Thanks for all the tips.
We had trouble with two of our cards because they did not have a CHIP in them, we only had one card with the chip and it worked fine,I am currently in Logronos and have been trying to use my debit card to get Euros. I had a similar issue I can offer this solution- when it asks you if you accept the currency in sterling I said no (as I prefer to debit my account in euros) and the €300 was refused for 'technical reasons' however if you agree to 'sterling and 3% currency fee' the ATM produces the Euros..I am currently in Logronos and have been trying to use my debit card to get Euros. ... Some locations require 6 digits...
Does that imply that it would ask American cardholders if they agree to dollars & a fee? When I lived in Paris we had 'technical difficulties' when using our American ATM cards to get cash unless we went to ATMs that handled the exchange. No issue with credit card cash advances.I had a similar issue I can offer this solution- when it asks you if you accept the currency in sterling I said no (as I prefer to debit my account in euros) and the €300 was refused for 'technical reasons' however if you agree to 'sterling and 3% currency fee' the ATM produces the Euros..
I tried both ways ie 'no' to sterling then 'yes' to sterling and only the yes worked....and produced the requested Euros...Does that imply that it would ask American cardholders if they agree to dollars & a fee? Hi, I am a European and as far as I know we only use 4 digid pin. That's for the bank cards and credit cards.Be sure to let your debt card provider know you are in Spain.
Some locations require 6 digits--if your four digit pin doesn't work enter 00 after your pin.
I had trouble at some places but never at Santander banks.
Try small amounts--100 EU or less.
Good luck!
No chip! Now we have the route cause. From me experience/understanding "no chip, no work". So for all who read this & are intending to use debit cards ensure that they have "the chip"!The banks are closed here today because of the grand fiesta. Hola SY! In Australia we have an option of either a 4 or 6 digit pin, it often depends on what your bank requires. To overcome the problem with EU "4 digit" pins we can have "00" as the last two digits & drop them as necessary!I am an European and have traveled extensively but never came across the need to use a 6 digit pin. Where did that happen to you? Buen Camino, SY

Yes it does because it's what I did back in 2013 !I am pretty sure that that wouldn't work in Europe - Here it is 4 digit pin or doesn't work at all, but glad to hear it works the other way round!
