Easter

I am Jerry Felty from Ohio. I am 60, but have become very attracted by the idea of walking at least part of The Way. I'm looking at the Sarria to Santiago version my first time. I have a question, however. Is it a good time to be on the trail during the Easter season, or is it real crowded? I'd like to walk into Santiago and attend Mass on Easter Sunday. I suspect that Santiago and the city would be busier than usual due to the Faithful attendance. Does anyone have any experience or advise to pass along? It would be appreciated. Thanks. Jerry Felty

is it real crowded?
It depends on your definition, but by most standards, the last 100km will be crowded, and you will not be alone in wanting to arrive in Santiago on Easter Sunday. Obviously, it can be done, so you need to look at your strategies for success. One would be to take more time and walk shorter days, guaranteeing an easy bed each night. Alternatively, you could plan on staying in the slightly more expensive hostales, avoiding the pilgrim rush that will exist for cheaper albergues. Or just fight the crowds and love doing it.

Greetings Falcon 269....thank you for your response to my questions. Since I posted them this morning I've gotten busy. I've been trying to convince myself I could do at least a short stint along The Way for a while now. I found some relatively cheap plane tickets into la Coruda and away from Santiago 9 days later. I have from April 3-8 to get there along the el Camino Inglesh if I want to attend Easter Sunday Service. It seems to be about a 5 day walk from what I've read. Guess that's cutting it kind of close though. I'm going for it. Have you ever walked that trail?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I was in Spain for Easter Week, Semana Santa, in 2003 and it was absolutely SPECTACULAR!
I would book my lodging early, especially in Santiago, but it would be a wonderful trip!

Thank you Annie Santiago for the information and I will take your advise. I have decided to walk from A Coruna to Santiago...guess I won't get the compostela but I'll settle for the experience. Never been to Europe and need some inspiration in my life right now. I'm so impressed with you vets and your willingness to share. Jerry
