Fiestas in Galicia

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone,

I am coming to Santiago on Saturday 28th Of January for ten day's. When I booked my plane tickets months ago I noticed they were higher for this period and Ivar said it might be because there are some fiestas taking place.

I will be in Santiago and also Pontevedra and wondered if anyone knew of anything going on.

Is it cold over there at the moment?

Best wishes

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Hi there...

There is a new site that the local government has up with a lot of cultural events (Spanish only). Have a look here, and navigate in the calendar at the top-left corner:
http://www.compostelacultura.org/axenda.php

For fiestas have a look here:
http://www.santiagoturismo.com/visitars ... iestas.asp
http://www.galiciaenfiestas.com/gastronomicas.htm

and

http://www.santiago-today.com/fiestas-a ... alicia.cfm

..it is always difficult to see when each of these fiestas will be celebrated, since the date they are celebrated change each year (For example I know of one that is celebrated the first Sunday I august, and that date changes every year.)

...not sure if there are any "big" fiestas going on when you are here.

The last week we have had about 14-15c and sun, then close to 2-3c during the night. The two weeks prior to that, rain, rain and rain... and about 14c.

Welcome!

Ivar

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hello Ivar,

No I did not book my tickets hoping for a fiesta, we usually visit Spain in August for those. We are coming over to chill out, do some walking, see some Art and have some fabulous food and wine. A fiesta would be a bonus but not essential for fun in Galicia.

Thanks for the links, they are very much appreciated. I shall have a look at them.

Highly unlikely that planes would get booked up for any events other than St James Day, I would have thought. One or two people might go over to Santiago for carneval, but it's hardly got the allure of Venice or Rio. Looking briefly at prices Ryanair is currently offering in Feb, I cannot see any expensive periods, though weekends are always more popular than midweek. A group booking might fill up a particular flight, but, other than that, avoid school and public holidays in Britain and Spain, and wait for Ryanair's 'specials'.

PS looks like weather will be cooler over next few days, with cold air from Norway. Currently warmer in Glasgow than Santiago

Brrrrr, I am from Glasgow so was hoping for some sunshine. Still at least I am used to the cold.

Best wishes
