Hi, quick introduction, my name is Roisin, I am from Ireland, I am considering walking the Portuguese coastal route in September, but unsure as a result of the fires that took place this will be my first camino and to be honest I find a lot of the information confusing, any all advice will be welcome.

I'm headed there in September (God willing ) to walk from Porto to Santiago. I've been following the fires on threads and other sites. This apparently happens frequently in the dry months. My latest info is that the fires are very quickly contained and nothing threatening as of this writing. I do plan to pay very close attention to the news while there and listen to the locals. I think this is one camino where one will have to be willing to make changes to plans...letting go of the 'perfect pilgrim walking the perfect camino' as it may not be in the stars. Still, having walked every inch of other caminos, what's important is to acknowledge that we are not always in control, trust God, trust the experience, let go of expectations, make wise decisions and know that all of those things ARE camino lessons

I walked the CdP in '17 soon after 62 people perished in the fires near Coimbra. I must admit I was very anxious on the days we were in the eucalyptus forests.
