Hi. I'm new here so be gentle! Any recommendations for a place to stay on my first night in St Jean? Starting my walk on the morning of the 12th June. Many thanks. Becca

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Hey Becca I have booked at the Itzalpea (or something like that!) for my first night. It's a little hotel, not a hostel. I leave on the 21 July and booked a while ago. Good luck!!

Becca,

I always stay at the municipal albergue at 55 rue de la Citadelle. Recently renovated this is a fine place to stay, but they do NOT take reservations. The volunteers of the Amis du Chemin de Saint Jacques help run it. In Saint-Jean their Pilgrims' Office is at 39 rue de la Citadelle. The telephone is 05 59 37 05 09. In season the office is open from 7h30 to 12h30 and then from 13h30 to 22h. They can provide you with a Credential and lodging assistance. If their municipal albergue is full they will help you find other pilgrim lodgings when you are on site. They keep up to the minute lists of available space throughout the SJPdP area.

Another possibility is to use this SJPdP Tourist Office link for all accommodation in the area >> http://www.saintjeanpieddeport-paysbasq ... ZSC7VK6g44
Once the site loads on the band at the top marked DORMIR, click Hérbergements Collectifs for pilgrim albergues, for other tourist accommodation click Chambres d'hôtes for B and Bs. or Hotels.

Bon chance and Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I recommend l'Esprit du Chemin http://www.espritduchemin.org/nl a private albergue run by 2 Dutch pilgrims. They offer a communal dinner and breakfast which is a wonderful way to get into the Camino spirit - truely a special experience!

You do need to reserve but this is easily done by sending an e-mail:

40, rue de la Citadelle
64220 St-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France
tel. +33 (0)5 59 37 24 68
info@espritduchemin.org
open: 29 March - 28 September
stay : 8 €
dinner: 9 € (incl. wine)
breakfast: 3 €
packed lunch: 3 €

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Many thanks to all who replied to my request for suggestions for a place to stay on my first night in St Jean. I have now been able to book a bed. Thanks for all your help. Very much appreciated. Becca
