first time camino in may!

Hi all,
My best friend and i are starting the camino in may this year. We are 21 years old and attend college in Indiana, and wondering about our saftey along the camino. Both of us are unbelievably excited for this experience, but our families are concerned about us being on the camino alone.
Also, we're wondering about how much money to take for the trip. We'll be gone from May 1st to May 24th. We're starting the camino in Leon, but we have a few days in madrid before and after the hike.
Any help would be much appriciated! Thank you!
Kristin

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I can understand your safety concerns but as many others have said the camino is safe-especially compared with many other nations. In fact if you take just death by fire arms the us accounts for about 45% of all gun deaths in a list of over 30. Since 1980 there have been over 600,000 gun deaths in the us, one table quoted over 29,000 in 2001 alone. These figures also look grim for murders, robberies etc. I know where I would feel safer!
As for how much money to take-I would say 20E would be a minimum. Some alberegues are donation although the ones in Galicia were free.

I think Omar must have meant 20E per day. The widely quoted rule of thumb is 1E/km travelled. Keep in mind that ATM's are widely available so you don't have to carry it with you.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
20e a day...hmm...dunno...I'd say it would depend on you.

As Jeff001 mentioned there are a lot of ATMs on the towns/cities you'll pass by. Credit cards are also accepted in hotels/restaurants, etc.

Perfect ages to do the Caminos, btw.

Congrats, you'll have a blast :D

New user here. Hello to you all. New to the forum but not to the Camino. I was told about this Forum whilst I walking the lovely scenic 'Camino Norte'. I'm planning walking another in June.
