First time walker

Hi, I am a solo walker (woman) planning to walk the Camino in October 2012, starting from the Spanish side of the Pyreennes. first of all, is it safe to walk alone and secondly, are there any other solo travellers planning to walk at this time of the year whom I might start off with?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
It's very safe. Read all the posts on the forum for confirmation of many who walked it alone at all age levels. There is a calendar on the forums that people can sign up on to advertise their departure date. You might want to check that out and see if anyone else has listed a similar schedule. The only thing I can think of with regard to an October start might be some alburgue closures at the end of the busy season although I gather there are plenty of other alternatives to take up the slack. I am only going on what I have read here however, as I have not yet had the pleasure of walking the Camino myself yet. I do a lot of obsessive reading to make up for that ;)

I am also a solo walker planning on beginning my journey in July....don't have the exact date yet but the beginning of July. Anyone planning on starting then from the French side just across the border on the Frances camino:

I too am a first timer and have just booked my flight for the 3rd September from Gatwick. Am getting excited already and it seems to occupy a lot of my thoughts!! I would love to hear from amyone else who is starting on that date.

Hola Peregrinos! I will be walking May 8th and I am walking alone (I am a woman). At first I was considering taking the bus from Santiago to Lugo then Sarria on 5/7, but I don't want to lose time getting to the starting point. How much is taxi fare to Sarria from Santiago?
gracias, Pilar
