First timer from England, starting March 18

Time of past OR future Camino
Frances, Portuguese, Catalan, Moz, VdlP, Ingles
I'm a moderately fit Englishman, 60 years old, planning to start from the Pilgrims office at around 10.30 on Saturday March 18th. Aiming for a night stop at Valcarlos, but, who knows, if I am still breathing, I may try to get to Roncesvalles. Anyone else with similar ideas willing to keep me company so that we can motivate each other?

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I think eight-nine hours (with a couple of stops for food, rest) are average times for SJPP-Valcarlos-Roncesvalles.
The last section goes by a forest (unless you decide to walk along the highroad). When you arrive at Ibañeta chapel, it is just a walk to Ronc.
Some light rains and mud are distinct possibilities. Keep also in consideration that in March 18th the sunset will arrive at 18:48. See here
Buen camino!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

This is excellent advice, especially the sunset time. I had already assumed that I would split the first stage at Valcarlos to break myself in more gently on my first day, and you have confirmed that it will be the right thing to do. Thanks also for the weather advice, and you can be sure that I have planned to start my journey with all my rain gear on, or very close at hand.
