Well, then it's a no-brainer for an extra 11E! Thanks.Iberia Airlines flies several times a day from Santiago to Paris, connecting through Madrid or Barcelona. The transit time is from four to seven hours, and the fare about 200E.
There is a bus three days a week. It takes about 24 hours and costs 189E.
So flying from Thailand... thought best place to land would be Paris. But how hard/expensive is it to get back to Paris from Santiago? Would it be better to fly in to Spain, just from the return point of view?

I remember paying about 200 Euros for mine, but I bought it at the airport 3 hours before the flight./QUOTE]
Mostly, when on the Camino, I don't like to pre-book. However when there is something such as return flight home to connect with I can't afford to take a chance with timing - which is why I have booked my connecting flight so early (and it is cheaper). I am anticipating a total cost of around €125 - 140 for my return journey to CDG (including a nights accommodation). Cheers Janet.
I would suggest using London to stage your trip; its well connected to all of Europe.
As near as I can tell, flying from Santiago to Paris requires a transfer; there are no direct flights.
The train is an option. Santiago to Irun/Hendaye with Renfe. Irun/Hendaye to Paris with SNCF
There are buses though you may have to travel from bus hub to bus hub. Buses are probably the cheapest option. Alsa is a good resource.

Imo, yes.
Flying from Bangkok to Paris or Madrid in June 2014 is approximately the same price. Returning from Santiago to Madrid is much cheaper and quicker than Santiago to Paris. Unless you have a compelling reason to fly into Paris, I would recommend you fly round-trip to Madrid.
I assume you are planning on starting in SJPdP. If so, from Paris CDG arrange transport to Montparnesse train station. Take TGV train to Bayonne, then local train to SJPdP. If you choose Madrid, train or bus from airport to Pamplona, then bus or cab to SJPdP.
Thanks Joe...
Not sure why I though of Paris rather than Madrid... perhaps because everyone else seems to do that. But I started thinking about getting back again, hence the question.
Ultreya,
Joe
For the record, Vueling/Iberia does sometimes have direct flights from Santiago to Paris (CDG), I remember paying about 200 Euros for mine, but I bought it at the airport 3 hours before the flight.
