Going fishing on the beach or rivers? Hiring bikes?

More questions!

My partner, who for various issues is not interested in walking the Camino, is thinking about 'coming along' and having a holiday while a friend and I walk, picking us up at the end of each day and dropping us where we left off again in the morning. The question now is whether he would find enough to relax and amuse himself while we're out hoofing it.

Any guidance, experience and tips about fishing along the shoreline? Rivers?

What about cycle hire - I have found info for Porto but not elsewhere?

Any other tips or advice would be welcome. This might be a better option for us than him staying at home. We are thinking of March (which is when he turns 70)

Thank you so much. The responses to my previous question were really helpful.

PS. I met a Brazilian lady on a walk in the Peak District yesterday. We have a lovely chat about the Camino and she told me Bom Caminho. My first greeting.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
There are fishing seasons and licensing. That’s all I know after watching trout rise for two weeks in Ribadiso.

When I’ve tried to involve my better half it has been an absolute disaster, although he has been both willing and able.

Sorry, I know nothing about fishing or cycling. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

If anyone knows how to keep a man obsessed with restoring classic motor bikes amused while walking a camino I would love to hear from them . . .

Guides that will let you complete the journey your way.

The Spaniards are maniacs for classic motor thingies, and I have seen a parade of historic motorcycles in Santander. In a small town out of Igualada, on the Cami Catalan, I walked into a fiesta with a tour of antique automobiles and a civil war ambulance. I am sure that there are more and some electro-sleuthing will doubtless dig up far more than one could imagine.

I have always wanted to cast a line and wet a fly at one of those brown trout one sees working the current from that bridge in Saint Jean Pied de Port, lol. I also saw some in a river near Vega de Valcarce.

Yes, you need a fishing license, there are seasons and regulations (about areas, allowed species, etc.). I heard that there are "licencias turisticas". Maybe you can contact a local tourist agency about the issue.

Thanks for all the advice. I think he will fish from coastline. Hopefully he will find plenty to keep himself amused

Even then, I am pretty sure, he will still need a license ...
