Thanks, I've downloaded this interesting piece of Camino history and I look forward to plunging into it (although my fervent hope is that this coronavirus lockdown doesn't last as long as it will take me to read all 1385 pages).View attachment 74861

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book and highly recommend for all!!! And here's an interview Tim Egan did with Rick Steves. You'll love this if you haven't listened before. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/travel-with-rick-steves/id79063354?i=1000473239239"A Pilgrimage to Eternity: From Canterbury to Rome in Search of a Faith by Timothy Egan, a columnist from the New York Times
Just added to my wishlist! Can't wait to read it.The Seven Story Mountain by Thomas Merton
I’ve just finished reading The Cypresses Believe in God, by José Maria Gironella, a novel published in the early 50’s about the run-up to the Spanish Civil War, and recommended by one of our members in another thread, for those who might be interested in Spanish history. Not an easy read, and I made pages and pages of notes in an effort to keep track of things. If anyone has any general thoughts on this book and would like to share them, I would be interested in hearing from you. To comply with forum rules, please private message me.
Delighted to hear this! It‘s great to have a good read. I think my best read, ever, is The Rougon-Macquart Cycle, by Émile Zola. And to think I got all 20 novels, in One Volume for something like $1.98 on Amazon. It kept me going for eight months.Bravo! The Cypresses Believe in God is one of the great books of the 20th century. Not hyperbole! I lent my copy out years ago and never saw it again.... Thank you for reminding me of it.
