Too many and too often!
With the Holy Year drawing to a close it looks like the final total of Compostelas issued this year will be somewhere in the region of 440,000. Pretty busy! But earlier this week the annual pilgrimage to Guadalupe in Mexico drew millions of pilgrims over just a few days. Some interesting photographs in this article from AP. This article claims that some 3 million pilgrims visited the basilica this week. Other sources put the number closer to 11 million. Gives a slightly different perspective on the idea of overcrowding on the Caminos...

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
IIRC, more pilgrims visit Montserrat each year than Santiago. And Fátima certainly !!

But if we were to count foot, bike, horse, etc. pilgrims only, Santiago de Compostela would be hard to beat.

Camino de Madrid pilgrim here. I was fortunate to experience Guadalupe day in Mexico. Not at the basilica in Mexico City, but in Guanajuato state. The town of Los Rodriguez near San Miguel de Allende has major festivities over several days leading up to Dec 12. The celebrations are much more vibrant in Mexico than anything in the US.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
