Heatwave alert. Southern Spain especially

Just saw in this Guardian article today that it is going to be unseasonally hot.
Take care folks - plenty of advice in previous threads on keeping cool, hydration, etc....
I experienced heat exhausation on the CF a few years back. Not a pleasant experience.

We are currently in Carrion de Los Condes. Weather topping out today around 87 degrees F. We are starting a long day tomorrow to Terradillos de Los Templarios. We plan to leave before 6:30 to try and beat the heat. Forecast of 90 degress F tomorrow. Any advice is appreciated.

Drink plenty of fluids. If you think it is too hot, then it is too hot, so find somewhere to cool down. Take transport if you need to reach your planned destination. Good idea to leave as early as possible. Wet your hat. Please report in tomorrow.

I believe that is the long day on the Meseta where there basically aren't opportunities to water up. Or find food unless the respite area is open. Plus not much shade. So maybe a good idea to jot down taxi numbers you might find along the way, just in case???

We walked from
Carrión to calzadilla only yesterday. It was brutal heat but okay in the morning. The food truck guy at 9Km out is a nice respite but don’t linger long bc then it’s still a looooong interminable end it seems. We froze two 1.5L bottles and they saved us from core temperature lowering so please do try to see if u can find someone to freeze them for you. The nuns did for us

The van with refreshments was there when I walked it about 10 days ago.

This is a fantastic idea in extreme heat. Last summer in a US Arizona desert area, a friend and myself walked in 90-100°F heat, all be it a dry heat. Taking frozen bottles of water as they melted slowly cooled us down remarkably well.

Very hot here in Montamarta on the VDLP so the freezing of the water tip is MUCH appreciated. Two 1.5L bottles now sitting in the freezer - blissful to be able to have cold water tomorrow.

We have been able to freeze 3 days so far! It’s been a luxury and more. You will probably pass us in the upcoming days. I’m with a toddler in a hiking stroller. Aka water mobile play home

Nothing beats THAT starting to climb Napoleon Rte for the 1st time
Looks like Temps are still around these numbers for the next 2 days out of Orrison and Roncesvalles accordingly

I’m walking for 25 days now , from SJPP . I was in Mansilla de las Mulas and it was 36c at 4 pm on Friday ( May 20) Leon yesterday 34c , today is the same and non stop Spanish parties on Sat. night near the cathedral , beautiful city but can’t wait to get out of here . No idea what to expect towards San Martin .this heat wave is a killer . be safe . Buen CAMINO to all.
