Camino Francis June 2018
Greetings to everyone from the Camino Portuguese. I am in my second week, coming from California, and I thought people might want to know what it is like. First of all, I had no problem getting into Lisbon airport with my negative Covid results and paperwork for my Covid vaccination. I began walking in the very south and east corner of Portugal and have followed the coastline. I am currently in Santarem, going to make a left turn west and head to Fatima, then follow the coast to Porto and then Santiago. Things here seem very normal. The Portuguese people, always so welcoming, are delighted to see the return of the Pilgrim. Everything is open and pretty much functioning back to normal. Loving it.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
This is very good to know! I'm starting the CP from Lisbon in early July, and I was a bit worried about that!

Bom Camino!

Can you give more details about the route you’ve taken so far please? Did you start in Vila Real de Santo António or did you mean southwest and start in Sagres?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Great to hear...planning the CP for Aug/Sep

Well Peregrinos across the pond if you were thinking of going this post is a big hint to do it now if it is possible. Situations change very quickly in Europe.

Bom Caminho

Two. That’s it. And only from a distance.

Have you found accommodation between santarem and Fatima? I'm looking to do similar in a couple of weeks but am struggling with somewhere to stay.....

I’m in the trail at the moment but plan to stay in Santos. I’ll let you know.

Thanks for sharing your experience so far. I'm looking forward to reading more updates if you have time!
Have a safe journey.

Thank you for this! We want to fly into Madrid on June 8th from the US, and would like to walk the Portugues from Porto, Everything I read says still closed for US travelers? If you can do it, we can!

Might be some new info on May 30th in Portugal?

Thanks for posting. I’ve been seeing some great deals on plane tickets to Lisbon, but was afraid to purchase because I didn’t know if I could get in. Keep us posted on your progress!

Buen Camino. Wishing you all the best.

First of all, I had no problem getting into Lisbon airport [coming from California] with my negative Covid results and paperwork for my Covid vaccination.
Thank you for sharing the good news! However, I am confused. My understanding is that Portugal is still not allowing in people from most of the world (in particular from the US), even with COVID tests and proof of vaccination. I hope I'm not prying if I ask - do you have Portuguese residency or EU citizenship or some other grounds for entry into Portugal?

Spain will admit US citizens with proof of vaccination starting on June 7. I keep hoping that Portugal will announce a similar opening soon, but apparently the decision-making process is very different in Portugal.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Buen Camino! Great news! I am thinking about possibly 'hopping' to Tangier-Chefchaoun at the end of my stay in Portugal. I'll be in Jerez de la Frontera but currently Morocco has a no fly/no ferry for Spain. I don't think this holds for Portugal, though. I'd have to fly from Porto-Tangier (via Barcelona then back via Madrid - but I'll just get off there because that's where I need to end up to go home anyways! Voila!)... arrange guided tours (I've seen them on Viator)... I was wondering about traveling as an American but would be coming from Spain.... As far as I know, currently Americans can travel to Morocco, just cannot go via Spain (the most convenient way). They have a lot of local travel restrictions, too so I'm not sure about Tangier-Chefchaoun)....

Enjoy your trip! I'm planning mine via coastal Portugese (starting at Baiona), then shifting to the Spiritual Path at Ponteverde.

Right - I've pretty much read the same... but the new regs are for entire EU to allow vaccinated Americans to enter EU... but Portugal has never clearly stated this although Spain has. Here's a great update on summer EU travel: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...cking-your-way-through-a-maze-of-border-rules

Any details about the trail and accommodations would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I plan to start in Lisbon the first week in May, 2022. Buen Camino!

I started in Villa Real de Santo Antonio. Lovely journey thus far. Even the tourist casino areas. They went by fast but were interesting. I loved the solitary beaches

I found a casa rural in Amaias de Baixo. Not much around here.
