Hi, Im Liam

Hello, my name is Liam and I live in Virginia, very close to Washington DSC (USA). I only heard about the Camino within the last year, but ever since I have spent hours reading everything i can about it. I am not sure when i will be able to take the trip but it is on my list for sure. Due to knee problems and time constraints i will most likely be trying to complete it on my bike. I have dont some Bike Tours in the past and relish the idea of biking across spain. I am looking forward to using the forum as a resource, and gleaning information and expreience from all of your adventures.

THanks

Liam

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Hi Liam,
Welcome to the forum. You will have a wonderful time on the Camino.

Please from a ' Senior' who has many times been frightened out of her wits by a cyclist brushing past me, please please have a bell on your bike and use it well in advance of walking pilgrims.
Whilst walking one only hears the "scrunch scrunch" of the gravel under your boots and do not hear a cyclist approaching, and it can be that one suddenly swerves to one side or another to avoid a stone and that is when the real danger is.

Buen Camino Liam

Hi Liam,
Some cyclists ride traditional touring bikes, like the Surly Long Haul Trucker, and ride town to town mostly on the road. Other cyclists ride Mountain bikes and follow the Camino trail. Both ways are equally legitimate.

It will be a great trip when you decide to go.
Buen Camino,
David, Victoria, Canada.

Hey guys, I currently have an old rigid mountain bike outfitted with racks, panniers, GPS, lights and a bell that I'm using for touring. Currently I am not doing any distances near this but weekend trips fully outfitted with gear.

David, I would to love to move to a LHT at some point just for my own sake. I think on the camino I would want to do some road time and some trail time.

Liam, consider doing lots of hill training. Spain is not flat. Try the most difficult hills you can. No shame in walking your bike on the camino. If you want to do some walking as well you might try renting from Bike Iberia wwwbikeiberia.com/rentals.html. They will deliver bikes where you want and pick up where you want. You can take a back pack, switch your gear to panniers, have your back pack delivered where you want the bike picked up, switch gear again and resume walking. We used them last year and they were very good about delivering our extra baggage from Pamplona to SDC. We had nice clean clothes at the end of our trip. Left dirty clothes at hotel to make room for trinkets from SDC and gifts for friends. Buen Camino bicigrino. Travel light, Spain is a first world country. If you need something, you can buy it in Spain.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
