Hi all. Long time lurker (wife is on the thread), first time poster. Did the Camino Frances from SJPdP to Burguete and then Sarria to SdC last year. Planning on doing the entire Camino Frances this year (and then the Camino Ingles with the esposa and la nina). Tickets book through to Biarretz, just need to figure out how to get from there to SJPdP, and whether or not to spend the night in Bayonne (flight arrives in Biarretz at 1655) or try to get to SJPdP that evening. Any thoughts/suggestions (I'm sure I'll be severely jet lagged).

Congrats on breaking through from being a lurker. There are people who have done what you are planning, so they will be able to offer thoughts and suggestions. I can't really help you but just wanted to say hello back to you!

Biarritz is such a neat seaside town, so why not stay there the night, have a beach side wander the next morning before continuing by local bus, €1, to the Bayonne Railway Station.
From there catch the Rattler up the Rive River valley to SJPdP.
Regards and good travelling,
Gerard

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

1. https://www.expressbourricot.com/contact-and-booking/ The fee is split between passengers, so a full shuttle runs about 19 Euro per person. It is reservation only, is quite popular, and you need to make a reservation ASAP if you want to be assured a seat. It is comfortable and quick transport, and the drive is quite scenic, too.

2. Taxi. Again, the cost is per taxi. so, the more that share, the cheaper it is.

3. Walk to the main airport entrance and look for fellow pilgrims -- packs, shells, patches, anxious expressions :). Ask if anyone would like to share a taxi, or if anyone has space to share a ride. I'm sure you'll have no problem getting a few takers. :)

I have enjoyed using Express Bouricott. EB is very dependable and conscientious. As mentioned above, EB is by reservation only so you will want to make one well in advance of your arrival. Shuttles are usually fully booked, so the cost to St. Jean is around 19 Euro per person. If there are any empty seats then the per person price is higher. Below is a link to their passenger information page.

You already know what SJPdP is like with all the tourist and pilgrims. I am always surprised at how far in advance of traveling there that rooms seem to start filling up.

Thank all. Looking at all options (walk on the beach sounds nice, but would like to get to SJPdP asap and spend my first night there). Any other suggestions still welcome.

Also, any albergue/hostel/hotel/pension/casa rural recommendations in Bayonne, Biarretz, and SJPdP are welcome. I'm sure my wife remembers the albergue we stayed in last time, but I don't :-(

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Besides the above mentioned, there is the train. Go to https://www.sncf.com/ to see schedules.
I can see runs at 18:30, but that depends on the day (basically if it is weekend or not). This train is a little, cute
thing.
From the airport, take a Chronoplus bus (it stops at the airport, 45-50 minutes to Bayonne "gare") or a taxi (between 15-20 euros, reservation possible)

I really enjoyed my stay at Gite Makila.
