Introducing Sue Yurick

I am a retired teacher of Spanish and French who wants very much to do
at least the last 100KM of the Camino. I am agonizing over whether to go it alone(be a REAL pilgrim) or go with a company. I am 60, not terribly fit but healthy. If I go completely alone, I can set my own pace(pro) but will have to carry my stuff(con). I plan to begin in mid September. I live north of Grand Rapids, MI, USA, in the home of the Hush Puppy shoe, Rockford.

Any women of my age and semi-sofa-spud inclinations, please get it touch!

Hello Sue,
Guess you are the only one that will be able to determine which way to do the camino. In case you are interested, a friend of mine and I will do Oporto-Santiago on foot (about 250 km). We are starting on September 5, and expect to get to Santiago around September 19 or 20th. We are in our early fifties, and plan to take it easy, averaging about 20 km a day, except in one instance on the Portuguese side, where there is nowhere to stay, and we will need to walk further, about 26 km. Cannot say we are health nuts, actually we are bureaucrats in average shape. We are practicing walking about one-and-a-half to two hours a day, in order to slowly get in shape for the journey. You are welcome to join us. Cheers. Ilona

My decision!

I guess you could say I am taking the coward's way! I am joining a group which is starting in Burgos, but only hitting the highlights. So I will not be getting the Compostela after all. I do regret not doing this ten or so years ago! Our group is starting Sept 4 and reaching Santiago the 13 or 14, with intervals of bus travel  and charming accomodations. Perhaps we will see one another in Santiago, anyway!
