It's just a germ of an idea now - walking in Galicia with my two granddughters 17 and 21 - next May. Would like to visit friends for a day or two in Madrid, get a car, combine walking and driving from around Lugo to Santiago. Not interested in passport or certificate, just the countryside and the pleasure of my granddaughters' company. By next year they will be deep in college and career and I will be ??? Any tips?

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hope the idea blossoms! I have led a few trips with grandparents, parents, and children and have even been lucky enough to have my Dad join me and it is a wonderful experience!

If you are coming from Madrid by car, be sure to stop in at O'Cebreiro. A charming little mountain village with amazing views. It is easily reached from the A-6 (main super highway) that connects Madrid and Galicia.

How much time do you have? There is so much to see and with a car there are lots of other side trips (a few KMs to the north or south) along the Camino. If you would like to walk, try to focus on some of the bigger towns where you can easily catch a taxi to shuttle you back to your car.

Good luck and buen Camino!

We have so little time! Looking at landing in Madrid on 31 March and must fly home on the 8th April .
Rahthr than getting a car in Madrid, I am thinking of the night train to Lugo on Sunday night and getting a car there. Driving to Santiago, Perhaps seeing some of the coast , dropping the car, and flying back toMadrid on Spanair on the 7th April.
We could probably use some help planning a route and hotels.
When traveling In Ireland, I always went to the tourist board in each town and they would call a B and B in the next town for me. for me. anything like that?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
