Hello/Ola/Bonjour!

I am planning my fathers and I camino from Auch and we will start on the Arles Way, then onto the Aragonese way but we want to connect to the northern way -

Any advice about how to go from Pamplona onto El Camino del Norte?

getting excited already :)

thanks for the quick response:

for clarity:

We want to walk the whole way - are there any GR's that connect Pamplona with the coast?

cheers!

Taylor,

I've looked at the Gr's for the area and don't see one specific for Pamplona to San Sebastian.

Here is the link to Mapquest:

http://www.mapquest.com/directions

Type in Pamplona to San Sebastian...click on the walking icon.

It gives you the most direct walking directions. Looks like about three eight hour days to San Sebastian.

Buen Camino

That website is amazing! hadn't found it yet - Thanks!

That way definitely goes more NE than NW...

Are there any walking routes that don't go back to France and go straight NW?

If there are no set routes/walking tracks/trails/GR's heading NW out of Pamplona in the direction of San Sebastion...what about just walking along the small country roads and going cross country?

I might have to dig up an email of a friend in Pamplona and ask him if knows of a walk route heading towards Basque country...

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Thanks Arn!

Actually if I type in Pamplona->Zarauz it looks quite nice.

So assuming my dad ok's it (and he's pretty easy going) then I think this is the way well do it!

mmm excited that I can link up the two routes :)

Hi, Taylor,

You gotta love these pioneers who want to trailblaze new routes! I assume that the walk from Pamplona to Zarautz would be all asphalt, even though probably on minor roads most of the way. If that's not a dealbreaker for you, that's great. But if you think your feet will not tolerate the pounding, there are some dedicated trail connections between the Norte and the Frances. They would have much much less road walking. The Baztan, as you've already seen, requires a lot of backtracking eastward. So would the Vasco Interior between Santo Domingo and Irun.

But there are two other options that go more directly north-south. Stay on the Frances a bit longer and walk to Mansilla de las Mulas. From there, you take the Vadiense/Liebana Caminos to San Vicente de la Barquera and continue on your merry way on the Norte.

Or stay a little longer on the Frances, all the way to Leon, and head north to Oviedo on the Camino del Salvador. At that point, you can decide whether to keep going north to join the Norte in Gijon, or whether to walk the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo to Santiago.

There's information on all these options on separate sections of the forum. Buen camino, Laurie

My group of six arrives in Irun on May 20 and we're starting our Camino on May 21. Since it's the beginning of the busy season, I'm wondering if we should order trekking poles from Amazon Espana...
On the Norte...started Morgo headed to Santilanna del mer...today...wonderful walk.... 1st 7k and last 7k ...the middle industrail zone was meh. Just past polonca met loverly local spanish...
If anyone is in an albergues in or near Santillana del mar on the 1st of May and comes across Nadia from Ottawa would they kindly point her in the direction of this thread. Thanks all.....
