Hello Betsy - welcome to the Forum.

Here are some distances of towns from Santiago and how many days it will take you from each if you walk 20kms per day or 25kms per day.

Town Kms 20km or 25km per day

Burgos 488 24 20

Leon 308 15 12

Astorga 260 13 10

O Cebreiro 158 8 6

Sarria 115 6 5

Santiago

Based on these distances, you could start at Astorga (good place to start) and reach Santiago in 2 weeks.

You can get to Burgos from most Spanish destinations - either by train or bus.

When are you planning to walk?

The best route from Boston is to fly direct to Madrid (Continental, US Air....). Other routes (Paris or London) may be cheaper but you have to be prepared to wait for connections in terminals, both going and coming back.

From the airport a short bus/subway or taxi to Avenida de Americas bus terminal. Frequent buses go to Burgos.

Buen Camino.
