A couple of questions regarding travel back to Madrid. I've been thinking of taking the Trenhotel, but was wondering what the different options are. There's "Turista," "Butaca Super.," "Cama Turista," "Cama Preferen," and "Cama G. Clase." I know the "Turista" options are the cheaper 2nd class, either just in a seat or with a bed, and "Cama Preferen" would be first class with a bed, but what exactly is the difference, and what are the other two options?

Also, someone just told me today that once you receive your compostela that you can get discounts on flights within Spain, such as to Madrid or Barcelona. Can anyone confirm that? And how would you get such a ticket?

If you're interested in flying buy a RT! It's cheaper than a one-way. www.iberia.com. Make the return as far away as possible and at an odd time, i.e. 10:30 PM. If you're lucky it should be about 110 euros.

I have only gone Cama Turista. There are four beds in the room with a sink. The bed was a little short for me (6' 1"). The train is overnight and bathroom is down the hall.

I was advised to take a normal seat for an overnight journey.
They all recline and would be satisfactory, I was told.
Wrong.
Ruined the whole next day.
Take a sleeper.

If you are over 60, you can take any train in Spain for a 40 percent discount. If you're not, well, you have time on your side then. My husband and completed our Camino a few weeks ago and bought our ticket for the train from Santiago to Madrid. It was very comfortable and took 6 hours. We took a non-stop train. No need for a bed!

Just an addendum to the post above. You have to buy a Tarjeta Dorada first for 8 euros. You need to show your passport/ID card as proof. Discounts vary according to the train used.

Thanks all. I think I'll get tickets for the Cama Turista, but I won't wait till my mom gets here, I think. It should be cheaper to buy in advance anyway, right?
