Living in Spain?

Time of past OR future Camino
My first Camino was in September/October of 2009.
Hello everyone!
As of June '09 I will be retiring from my teaching career and prepare for my Camino in September of '09. I have for the past several years entertained the idea of living in Galicia (preferably Santiago De Compostela) I know that I can easily go to the Spanish Consulate here in New York City and I will do so in the near future, but what I am looking for are pilgrims who have already settled there, to learn what your experiences have been like. Thank you all for any information you can send me.

Saludos y Buen Camino a Todos,
Tony Ferreira

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi Tony,

As you may, or may not know I have been living in Santiago de Compostela for the last 4 years (well actually I live about 15 minutes outside of town). Please send me an e-mail with your questions, and I will try as best as I can to help you out. My e-mail address is ivar.rekve at gmail dot com.

Greetings from Santiago,
Ivar

Hi Tony,
I did a quick web search for ex-pats living in Spain.

This is a website that lists blogs of ex-pats living in Spain. None in Galicia that I can see but some might prove useful: http://www.expat-blog.com/en/directory/europe/spain/

British ex-pat living in Galicia: http://www.expat-blog.com/en/blog/europ ... a.com/lig/

http://www.lifeingalicia.com/lig/

http://colindavies.net/ ....MY primary purpose is to tell you something about Galicia in general

http://www.permaculturegalicia.blogspot.com/

http://www.galiciaproperty.net/ ... will also help you open a Spanish bank account, get an NIE number and assist you when it comes to locating services like property insurance, organising utilities and making certain that you are covered under Spain's National Health Care system.

I'm sure there must be many more.

Good luck with your camino and your move!

I´m an American-born pilgrim/hospitalera who lives in Spain, along the camino but not in Galicia.

For lots of expat info, check out http://www.multimadrid.com. (It´s not ALL about expat city living, their info on emigration, settling in, etc. has helped me out several times.) There are lots of expat sites and blogs out there, you have a big adventure ahead of you if you´re really serious about all this. You´ve already made a good start here.

Dear Fellow Pilgrims,
I am overwhelmed by your kindness in responding to my question on living in Spain, thank you also for sending me what I am sure will be very helpful websites. I am now hiking in the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York preparing more than a year in advance for my journey on the Camino in September of '09.

Muchisimos Gracias y Saludos,
Tony Ferreira

Hi Tony,
This is Mark adkinson from Galician Country Homes, http://www.galicianrustic.com you asked about pilgrims who have bought and live in Galicia. If you want I'll send you an email with several email addresses of the ones that bought through my company.
All the best,
Mark

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
