Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Frances (1998) y Portugues(2000)
I first travelled the Camino from Puente la Reina to Santiago then on to Fisterra in July/August 1998 and again from Barcelos, Portugal to Santiago and back down to Tui in 2000. 1999 I was a Hospitalera in the Albergue de Arzua (Galicia). These were very special experiences but I would dream of doing the Camino now for two reasons: the sheer volume of 'pilgrims' and the unfortunate fact that the Camino has become so commercialized and 'used'. However, I came across this forum whilst nostalgically browsing, and reading some of the comments, observations etc. was itching to give my three ha'pece worth as well.

Hi, Mulemad,

Welcome to the forum. If the Camino is calling to you, you should take a look on this forum for all the information about many other caminos to Santiago that are far less travelled than the Frances. You can see the long list on the forum's main page, but a few I'd recommend are the Salvador/Primitivo (Leon-Oviedo-Santiago), the Via de la Plata from Sevilla, the Camino de Madrid, the Vadiniense from San Vicente de la Barquera to Leon, and the Camino de Levante from Valencia. They are all very different, but they are all incredible in their own ways, it's just a matter of what you are looking for.

So, you can easily turn that nostalgia into a game plan! Buen camino, Laurie
