How do all,

My name's Tom, I'm a recent languages graduate and soon to be second time pilgrim!

I'm British born and bred and fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.

In 2009, before heading to University, I succesfuly walked the length of the Camino Frances from SJPP. I had such a fantastic time that at the time I didn't want it to end. Now having completed my degree I feel I have unfinished business with the Camino and with the big man upstairs himself and I'm keen to return to 'The Way'.

Which route I will take, I'm not sure... Oviedo is something of a Spanish base for my Spain related adventures and so the Camino Primitivo looks a good bet.

So, that's me - I've been registered before but subsequently lost username and password and changed e-mail address, but if anyone walked the CF in 2009 and recalls a Ginger Brit walking with a British flag sewn to his backpack and often walking under an Umbrella - do give me a shout!

Welcome Back, And greetings to that new chap, George, in Kensington Palace.

Oviedo to Santiago looks like a quick trip. Maybe two weeks or a little more. Why not walk the Camino Norte and pass through Oviedo on the way?

Whatever you do, Have a grand adventure. You deserve it, now that your studies are done.

How lovely that you speak so many languages!

I've read on here that once you do the camino once, you're pretty much hooked for life. I guess that's certainly true for you!

David - thanks for your reply. I agree, on a map it seems quite short, but in this instance it suits my plans perfectly. I have a fascination with Asturias and my close friends have taught me some Asturian dialect (however I'm told the language varies village to village so it might be a bit tricky in practice). Should I see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge I'll be sure to pass on your greetings! ha!

As a people we British have a horrid reputation for being loutish with no language ability. I like being the exception to the rule. ))

I took a bus from Astorga to Oviedo as a side trip. My reaction was that the Pyrenees are not mountains; Asturias is mountains!! The Primitivo skirts the really rugged mountains, though.

Buen Camino anyway. :wink:
