Just a quick bit of info from my Camino that started on May 19. Currently in Sarria.

The alburgue at O Cebriero is being substantially renovated, so pilgrims are being housed in construction-style portable cabins. Beds are OK, but toilets are in a separate portable cabin. A problem if the rain is pouringdown as it was when I stayed there 2 nights ago.

Also, the limited beds fill up by 3 pm. People arriving later had a problem.

My suggestion is to avoid staying here, and stop at the previous village (Faba). On the plus side.there was no charge for using O Cebriero.

More info whem I return home. Just a quick note that crowds are worse than I had expected. Try to avoid the obvious and standard stage halts if possible in favour of other towns. I fear (but hope I am wrong) that tourism is starting to affect the camino Frances.

Most folk seem to carry far too much stuff. Tendon Injuries in the lower leg are quite common, so make sure you know about such injuries before starting out (Google, see a foot doctor). This was a greater issue than I had expected to see.

Waves on the Camino!!

It seems that the numbers of pilgrims go in waves. Huge crowds at the end of April, quieter in the middle of May - Bob has spoken about crowds and yet yesterday I read this post on another forum:

"There have been no crowds in my Camino. I was expecting more past Leon but Alberques are only 1/2 full. Life is a joy every day. The rain has shown up strong again. The frogs are singing in the ditches and the roses smell sweet. I had my best meal so far at the Gaudi Hotel 10E, wow. It is good to be clean, dry and warm again. "
