Ola! Help me with my itinerary please

For of all, I want to say hi because I am new here.

Ok so here we go.

It is my first time to go to Europe and I have no idea how to go around there. I will be coming alone (despite, the discouragement by our priest). I did my own research but I want to get a second opinion from experienced Pilgrims.

My point of entry would be Rome, Italy. I plan to go to Lourdes first before I go to St. Jean Pied de Port. After finishing the Cammino, if I still have some money, I would like to go to Fatima, Portugal but if not, I'll go back to Rome and head to Assisi to visit some nuns (Assisi is still optional. Depends on my cash).

My objective for this pilgrim (actually, my spiritual or religious objective) is to see the Apostles who saw the Transfiguration. So I want to see St. Peter, St. James and St. John. Also, it' the Year of Faith!

So my questions are the following (please put some estimate how much is the fare):

a. From Rome, which is more preferable a plane or train to go to Lourdes? If train, where can I ride one?

b. From Lordes how can I go to St Jean?

c. From Santiago, how can I go to Fatima or how to go back to Rome, Italy?

There are about ten trains a day from Lourdes to Bayonne. At Bayonne you take a local train to SJPdP; there are up to five a day.

From Santiago you could walk to Fatima - just follow the blue arrows. More information at the Tourist Office for Portugal in the Rua do Vilar.

Air France has direct flights from Rome to Lourdes but you might find less expensive to catch a flight with eastJet from Rome to Toulouse. There are numerous daily trains from Toulouse to Lourdes and the same train continues on to Bayonne which you catch later once you are ready to leave Lourdes.

I will also add that you can simply start your camino in Lourdes instead of Saint Jean PdP. There are a couple of different feeder trails that depart from Lourdes that later connect with the Camino Frances route.

Also if you do make it to Fatima Portugal, the gateway city back to Rome will be Lisbon. Again there is a direct and inexpensive easyJet fight back to Rome from Lisbon.

thank you for the reply, sir. I apologize in advance but I have to ask, "is easyjet a travel/ticket office?" i read about easyjet in the internet but i don't know how to buy ticket from them (especially that I don't have a credit card).

about walking from Lourdes, can I get my credentials there?

about the walk to assisi, nice idea. maybe i'll do that.

Easyjet is a cheap fare British Airline. You can book on their site, paying with Visa etc.

I really dont know but maybe some others that have left from Lourdes can offer some advice.
I suspect you will have ask for one from your local Camino association prior to leaving Rome. I am sure you can the credential validated at the cathedral in Lourdes prior to setting off to Santiago.
