pack transport...how does it work?

My walking companion took a tumble and is not capable of carrying his pack for awhile.

Quick question - - do I need to reserve an albergue to have a pack dropped there?

Thanks in advance for any/all help in advance.

Not really , but it does make the process more reliable .
If you are not sure where you are staying send the pack on to the Municipale in the town you want . A pack delivery doesn't guarantee a bed by the way . If you decide to stay elsewhere a small donation should see things right .

I am in Leon now and have used the transport service for baggage. Ask at the reception desk for a baggage transport envelope. Fill out location you want the bag transported to (what albergue name in what village) as well as your contact info. Put 5 euro in envelope and then use supplied rubber band to attach envelope to the bag to be transported. You must then call the transportation company ( phone number will be on envelope) and tell them you have a bag to be picked up ( where you are now) and taken to the location you have written on the envelope. Then ask the person at the reception desk where to put your bag for transport. Then go and walk. Your bag will be there when you get there. A great service!

Not looking good after a test walk upon completion of the recommended rest period. We are sitting over 'con leches' in Tardajos puzzling through our options as I type.

Not the Camino planned, but a Camino nonetheless.

Sorry to learn of your troubles.
Why not just rest in Tardajos at La Fabrica for a few days. It is a fine spot with good food.

When walking November 2014 soon after leaving Burgos it began to drizzle then really pour. Totally soaked and cold at Tardajos I stopped at La Fabrica an old flour mill recently repurposed to be an albergue/hostal. It was a GREAT find.

Each heated albergue dorm room holds 4 pilgrims with fresh linens on the bunks and a sleek toilet/shower adjacent. My chatty dorm-mate was a Japaneze tour guide from Osaka; we were the only pilgrims. The price per bunk was 12 euros including breakfast. Regular tourist accommodation was also available. The busy ground floor bar/dining room was popular with locals as well as visiting hunters and the food was copious, tasty and good value. All in all La Fabrica was a pleasant stop before starting up the Meseta.

Thought I should update the thread as this little group might be wondering.

After doctor recommended rest period, my buddy's body is telling him to go home.

So much of the day was occupied with the logistics of getting him home that we missed a local Fiesta, 'Exaltation de Patata'. The 22nd one!

The town was JAMMED. So, kick yourselves for missing it.

I will be walking again on the 12th, by best estimate. Hope to see some of you on the Way.
