Packing list for my summer CaminoPortugues

Time of past OR future Camino
some and then more. see my signature.
First time I will walk in summer ( last week of August and first of September) so I changed some items from earlier Caminos ( when I walked in Spring ).

1. First of all I'm keeping my 45 +5 litre Gregory backpack. I really like the feeling of it and it is still in a good state. And I do prefer to have some extra room for water and food. The straps on the pack make it possible to make the pack a bit less bulky too.
Weight = 1300 grams.

2. Not sure yet about taking a walkingstick. Only use one anyway and then only when descending.
So optional = 320 gr.

3. Bra = 65 gr. ( will be wearing another one )

4. 3 underpants total of 75 gr.

5. backpackcover ( in a fluo colour ) = 89 gr.

6. sleepingbag in compression sack ( my usual 3 seasons Millet, I do get cold in the evenings so no liner for me ) = 655 gr.

7. rainpants = 137 gr. ( in spring I use a much heavier Berghaus ). Now I bought this one.

8. Fleece of 220 gr.

9. Three pairs of socks total = 195 gr.I prefer to have four in total with me on every multiple days walking.

10. Rainjacket Marmot = 333 gr. ( instead of heavyweight darkcoloured jacket of 700 gr. )

11. T-shirt shortsleeved ( a cheap one from Decathlon instead of heavier Icebreaker ) = 90 gr.

12. T-shirt longsleeved = 150 gr.

13. Yogapants for after walking and double as pj bottom = 283 gr.

14. Small shoulderbag for afterwalk ( for guide or small booklet ) = 185 gr. Yes this is a bit of luxury item , I could easily use a plastic bag.

15. 4 ziplock bags for all kinds of uses ( food , putting valuables when to shower ) = total of 50 gr

16. Neckwallet of 35 gr

17. Two compression sacks , one for clean clothes, other for clean socks and underwear = total of 75 gr. Different colours make it easier to find everything back in pack.

18. Quick dry towel = 105 gr

19. Cellphone ( also Kindle and camera ) with charger = 190 gr

20. Opinel knife and spork/ safetypins and small sewingkit = 70 gr

21. Crocs for shower and after walk = 200gr

22. Hat and bandana = 115 gr

23. Tootbrush and paste/ all in one soap / footcreme / sunscreen = 300 gr

24. Meds = 100 gr

Total= 5015 gr. or bit more than 5 k. without walking stick and water and snack.

One set of walkingclothes/shoes to wear.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I like the rain gear ...... well thought out packing list and I'm sure will go a long way to making this a enjoyable Camino for you. Equipment threads are my favourite and here I saw the rain pants and the Opinel knife!

Buen Camino Sabine

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi Sabinep,

This is a great, light gear list If you wanted to shave an extra 110gr off, you could look at the Sea to Summit Ultra Sil day packs instead of the shoulder bag. I have one and it fits all my stuff in it for taking into the shower (toiletries, change of clothes, camera, phone, passport etc), then I use it around town.

You haven't mentioned a water container and if you're starting in Lisbon there's a few long stretches where you won't pass any cafes. Platypus do a very lightweight Platy 2 litre water container at 36 grams, but I remember last year in June when I walked through a heatwave from Lisbon I carried 4 litres on a few occassions (just in case), so this 2 litre Platy could be in addition to a 2 litre plastic water bottle bought from a supermarket. There aren't as many fountains on the Portuguese way as there are on other caminos in Spain.

Buen Camino!

Hi Kat, thanks for the tip on the bag.
I will start from Porto and will bring two liter with me ( 4 bottles of 500 ml ) and stop at bars/ shops to restock.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.
