Phillipe on the Le Puy route

My friends and I have just spent 8 wonderful days walking from Le Puy - Espalion ( 25 March -2 April). During that time we were intrigued to find messages written in French on luggage labels which were tied to trees from the mysterious Phillipe. Has anyone else read them ? Has any one met Phillipe ? We really hoped that we might catch up with him.

On a different note- did anyone see a potato with a face carved on it near a cross at Lasbros ? I think I know who did that........ : :

We saw these messages all the way to St. Jean Pied de Port and beyond into Spain..not sure where the last one I saw was, but think it was past Roncevelles.
Quite a long string of messages.
I might add that the ones toward the end looked older and more faded than the ones closer to the start (Le Puy). No idea why this might be.
