I started walking from St. Jean on Saturday. Rumor has it that today is Wednesday, supposedly only a few days after my departure. How that is possible is a Camino mystery, as life is so full.
Friends, you may recall my pre-walk post about Orrison being full the days I wanted. Make no mistake, the Camino does provide. About a half hour before I got to that spot to rest, I felt ill and wished I could stay at that refuge. There were crowds, and there was no place at the inn for me. I decided to ask, and she said she had one bed that just became available. There are 2 main reasons that I am so happy I stayed: I made great fun friends, which are potentially around every bend, and I belief that layover absolutely made the difference between me thoroughly LOVING crossing the Pyrenees and me likely barely tolerating them.
Okay, so here I am in Pamplona. I'm staying in a private room for 2 nights. I need a break from the communal living. I need to be the only one snoring. I need to lay in bed naked...
My left foot has big problems. Actually, small problems for normal living, big for the Camino. It is already time for new shoes. Don't worry, I knew that would come quickly as I started with old sneakers. I have 2 blisters. I am diligently treating them and I found a very helpful person in a peregrino tech shop to sell me shoes. Many of my fellow travelers are having layovers in this town for various reasons. It's a good place to be.
The Camino connections are incredible. We are linked by this common intention to walk. It matters not our race, background, opinions, beliefs...there is deep caring and dare I say love for one another. I am seeing injuries of various types, all of it part of the experience and delivering opportunities for reflection, growth, and connection.
This is both everything I ever imagined and unlike anything I could ever dream all in the same moment. Another Camino mystery.
