Hello all,

My name’s Sam Lou, I’m an English singer-songwriter/artist heading to Porto on Tuesday for two nights heading out on the Camino to Santiago on 28th. I’m going to be launching my new album Space Junk which is released in all digital platforms on 29 Sept, as I go, and doing bits of musical performance on the way as I document it. I’d love to hear from you if you might be in or leaving Porto around then, or heading out that way! Any tips welcome as it’s my first camino. I should think I’ll do the coastal route, and am trusting in the process rather than overplanning, etc. One thing, are the auberges closed in October? Do folks use booking.com for hostels on this route?

With thanks,

Sam Lou

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
In my experience on the Portugues, albergues were still open in October. I never used Booking.com to book albergues, either just walking in or, on the rare occasions I booked ahead, contacting them directly. But I can't speak for others.

Hi @SammyLou, I too will be setting off from Porto on 28th September, 2 days Littoral then cutting across to the Central at Vila do Conde.

Maybe see you (or hear you, if you will be performing) at some point over the next couple of weeks.

Hello there and welcome to the forum!

Some of the albergues have open all year round.
Yes, some of the albergues can be booked via booking.com, but not all.
I've done it once on the CF, while the albergue was not reachable by phone.
Most of the albergues do have a website where you can see, if the are open in October.

You should be fine walking maybe a bit longer or use a cheap hotel that may have open if you are too tired or exhausted. Are you accompanied or do you walk on your own?

Have fun walking!

Hi @SammyLou, how much research have you done? There are no Auberge on the Camino Portuguese. You’ll find them in France, and compared to the average pilgrim hostel they’re pretty expensive.
How much were you hoping to pay? A bunk bed in a communal dormitory still comes in pretty cheap even in a Europe wracked by inflation and soaring energy costs. Private rooms, private facilities: they come in a bit more expensive

Edit: look for Albergues. Lots still listed. €10 to 15. Bargain

New user here. Hello to you all. New to the forum but not to the Camino. I was told about this Forum whilst I walking the lovely scenic 'Camino Norte'. I'm planning walking another in June.
