Does anyone know whose portrait is on the altar today at the 1930 mass? Thanks.

Not everybody's idea of a holy man, I must say.
A saint with feet of clay perhaps but who are we to judge. There are quite a few in the canon whose actions and attitudes wouldn't pass muster in the enlightenment (if that's the illusion we all still cling to).
Some of my old gods would make your toes curl but we still love 'em for what they are.

Jose Maria Escriba lived during a very difficult time in Spain. I've always thought his message about santifying your daily life right were you are was great. Seems similar to what the camino asks of Perigrinos each day... do your best, treat others well, etc.

Once read a sermon of his and this stuck in my mind:
Heaven and earth seem to merge, my sons and daughters, on the horizon. But where they really meet is in your hearts, when you sanctify your everyday lives.
Who hasn’t walked and seen this... heaven and earth merging on the horizon
