I slept here last night and I think I might have been better off sleeping on a bench.
The noise from 'children' running up and down the main corridor at midnight was horrendous. Obviously drunk and out of control. Also people coming into a shared room well after midnight (3.00AM) and then flicking screen after screen on their phone meant a rubbish night's sleep.
It may be cheap and the food pretty good but I won't recommend it as a place to stay.
Rant over.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Hi, E Daly, I long ago stopped sleeping in any albergue that is not a pilgrim-only albergue. These youth hostels are just too crazy for an old one like me. Hope things get better from here! Would love to hear how things go for you in the next few days, we don't get as many reports between Lisbon and the Spanish border.

I know it's too late for you, but for others who are walking from Lisbon, the perfect first day, IMO, is from the Cathedral, it's about 20 km from there to the pilgrim albergue in Alpriate. Bom caminho, Laurie

Yeah, you win some you lose some. Sorry to hear your's was a bad experience.

I was in a 6-bed female dorm and thought I had it to myself, until about 10pm, 5 young Portuguese ladies came in. They said they were just going out again for supper (at 10pm!), but they would try and be as quiet as they could when they came back. I didn’t hear a thing until about 6am when I heard them quietly shutting the door behind them as they left. And, no, I don’t take sleeping pills! And I wasn’t using ear plugs either.

I hope all your next nights’ accommodations are better for you.
Bom caminho!
Jill

I’ll be finishing the Caminho Português next month. Last year I wore Hoka Challenger 6 ATR shoes. I did have some blisters and foot pain, but a lot could have been due to the 30+km days from...
