Primitive Camping

I have never been to Spain (or Europe) and have a question I have not seen before. There is a lot of talk about the crowded refugios. What are the possibilities for a self-contained camper to walk off the trail and bed down in a field or woods? What is the prevailing custom? Trespassers will be shot? or Leave no trace and make yourself at home? Or?

Thanks, Rick

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I'm not sure that the Spanish are quite as relaxed about camping as some might think from their own countries

For nearly all the year my guess is that there's plenty of accomodation nearly all the year - and at the very peak in July/August closer to Santiago, there'll be some overflow sports halls and the like opened

You are probably better off staying closer to others in towns or villages rather than camping alone in the middle of nowhere
