Hi - we fly into Madrid, arriving 6:30 am from New York on April 19. I have been on the Renfe site for weeks trying to book a train to Irun, but I've finally realized (I think) that they are doing some work that day, so I've booked tickets to San Sebastian instead. We get in at 13:24 at Amara, I believe?? I've searched and searched, but can't come up with any definitive info on getting to Irun.. Transportation does exist, but from where exactly in San Sebastian or Donostia? We'd like to get to Irun as soon as possible in order to unwind, etc. From all I'm reading, the first days walk, although tough, is certainly rewarding, so I don't want to miss it. If anyone has up to date info on this, I'd appreciate it. If only we had flown out a day sooner I could have booked this weeks ago! Who knew! And has anyone stayed in Pasajes to break up the first day? And where, there are only a few beds at the albergue. Thanks, Cherry

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

There is a metro (Euskotren) that runs between San Sebastian and Irun. It takes a while - there are lots of stops, but I enjoyed the ride. If you're planning on staying at the Albergue in Irun, they don't open until 16:00, so there's no rush to get there.
Buen camino!

Renfe Station San Sebastian is co-located with the new bus station.

Renfe Cercanias train goes from San Sebastian to Irun Renfe Station. There is a schedule available for Cercanias for 19 April 2017 but I was of the understanding it uses the same tracks as mainline trains. I might be wrong.

PESA operates buses from San Sebastian/Donostia to Irun but not the Irun Renfe Station. It does make a stop at Gare d'Hendaye just across the border.

Metro Donostialdea (Euskotren) operates trains from San Sebastian Amara station to several stops in Irun. Colon is closest to Irun Renfe Station. Amara station is located across the river about 1 km from the San Sebastian Renfe Station.
