Shipping a parcel from Porto to Santiago

After a ridiculous amount of research, I am still confused about best option. This is NOT luggage. It is my laptop, which I need on the plane but OBVIOUSLY! do not want in my backpack. Transport services don't want to transport "delicate electronics." I have been warned against Portuguese mail service. Cannot get a clear answer from UPS, which may not may not ship within the EU. I would want to package up and send from Porto to Santiago. Sure could use specific advice here.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I'm not sure what you have been told about the PTT, which I used for some luggage. I would be concerned, no matter what carrier you choose, about having sufficient padding like bubble wrap that will protect your laptop. Most computer packaging I have seen has quite substantial polystyrene or similar packaging with a couple of cm or more of space all around the case. I don't think I would use beads or other padding that might shift during transport, and allow the laptop to come into contact with the external packaging material.

Do you REALLY need to have this laptop on the ‘plane? If you don’t NEED it during your walk what’s it for? You could ship to Santiago direct from the States and argue with customs and excise when you get there. You’re discovering how difficult what you’re proposing can be. Perhaps you could consider how necessary it is.

I know you said it was a laptop and not luggage, but I'm sure Luggage Driver can handle it just as easily assuming you package it well as others have mentioned. I used them to send a roller bag for me and my wife from Porto to Santiago in July 2022. They picked up at our hotel in Porto and delivered to a hotel in Santiago. I contacted the destination hotel beforehand to ensure they could hold it for our arrival. Most of the correspondence with Luggage Driver was via email, although I first made contact by phone. English was excellent in both cases. Https://luggagedriver.com, +351 933 083 687. Cost was 30 Euros at that time.

Edited to add: I had an Apple AirTag in the bag, and Luggage Driver held it in one of their facilities (near Povoa de Varzim I think) for several days so it wouldn't arrive in Santiago too early.

I have just used Eurosender for my suitcase from Irun to Casa Ivar in Santiago and declared that it contained my laptop. Cheap and no issues. You need to deal with packaging to your standard but beyond that the process is simple

I live in Porto and there is FedEx available near or in the airports. I use them to mail items to the states from here. You can go into the larger stores or you can do it from their app on your phone. U must have a local address to put in as the sender. I just use the address of the store
