I am walking all of June on the Frances route.

Should I prebook hostels?? Ideally I would be a bit more free with distances travelled etc because you never know how you will feel on the day.

Also what happens should all the hostels be full and you are in a town???

Kindest Regards

I've walked in August/September and July/August. The only time that I felt that I needed to reserve was during August on the stretch after Triacastela. And even then I'm sure that I could have just arrived and town and found a bed, but I liked the security of having a place to stay when things were more crowded. I did meet plenty of pilgrims who never reserved, and always found a bed.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

We walked in June and usually didn't reserve ahead - sometimes we'd call mid day and reserve a couple beds, and occasionally we'd use booking.com to reserve a private room for the next night - but mostly we just turned up and found a spot.

If an alberque is full, you just go to the next one. If they are all full in a town, there might be a hotel or casa rural that you can stay in. Or you walk onto the next town (or get a taxi if you are too tired).
