There have been two television programmes this week about renewed research into the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin. One group had set out to show that it is a forgery created by Leonardo de Vinci, the other was open minded. The research the latter group conducted showed that the samples taken for Carbon 14 dating were in fact from the damaged and repaired section of the cloth. The fibre being a mix of the original and a mediaeval thread, woven in and dyed to match. This obviously skewed the original results. The hope is that there could be further examination of the Shroud.
Our guide to Oviedo has a section on the Sudarium, kept in the Cámara Santa in the Cathedral. The Sudarium is documented back to the 1st century, and laboratory tests show that it was used to wrap the same body and has the same rare AB blood group as the Shroud.

Does anyone have any updates on the research done? Wouldn't it be great if the Shroud could be authenticated during the current Holy Year.
